The happy secret to better work | Shawn Achor

We believe that we should work to be happy, but could that be backwards? In this fast-moving and entertaining talk from TEDxBloomington, psychologist Shawn Achor argues that actually happiness inspires productivity. TEDTalks is a daily video podcast of the best talks and performances from the TED Conference, where the world's leading thinkers and doers give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. Featured speakers have included Al Gore on climate change, Philippe Starck on design, Jill Bolte Taylor on observing her own stroke, Nicholas Negroponte on One Laptop per Child, Jane Goodall on chimpanzees, Bill Gates on malaria and mosquitoes, Pattie Maes on the Sixth Sense wearable tech, and Lost producer JJ Abrams on the allure of mystery. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, and TEDTalks cover these topics as well as science, business, development and the arts. Closed captions and translated subtitles in a variety of languages are now available on TED.com, at If you have questions or comments about this or other TED videos, please go to

He is talking way too fast and has filled his time with pointless conversation and anecdotes that I cannot comprehend what he is trying to get across.

I am a persistent woman and purchased the Super Manifestor Gold Pack in May 2008 *[ Check Details here === ]*. Things started to happen when I began to study the training files and I particularly enjoyed practicing the first two meditations every day; they were Manifesting An Abundance of Money and Meeting Your Enlightened Financial Guru.

Love his work and his TED talk and book has completely how I view and changed my personal and business life. I was always taught to work hard and then you'll be successful, and happiness was never a part of the equation. I think everyone should watch this video clip and read his The Happiness Advantage book.

Somehow I got here. I just broke up with someone and am feeling a little bit desperate for this abrupt change, but I think It'll be the most positive thing that has ever happened to me. Amazing speech, He speaks too fast but it doesn't matter cause his message is quite impressive and it really touched me.

This is nonsense. Sometimes it pays to be unhappy about a situation because it can drive you. Forcing yourself to change your perspective takes away why you were unhappy about it, and that unhappiness meant that you needed to make a change. Hes saying dont go through the hardship of change, just pretend everything is great and be happy at all times. Talk about taking the blue pill.

That's an excellent talk. I am a psychology student and it has just become disgusting how almost every single example we use during class is about depression, disorders, and/or all those people who are not normal. Positive psychology, as explained by Dr Achror, makes things little bit more exciting, and rewarding?

I have been journaling ever since I watched this video almost 4 months ago, where I write about something positive that happened that day as well as something I'm thankful for, I'm now 110 days in and it's changed my life and how I look at things!

Life is dark, hm? Humor is an excellent way to deliver information, the brain saves things that are linked with emotions very well. Additionally the speaker and crowd have more fun like this. Maybe you can profit by reading the book.

This reinforces what I've believed: constantly trying to reach success, to work to reach happiness later, is really not an effective way to live. I always think Wow, this is the best one I've seen! And this Talk is definitely a Life Changer, it's amazing! I'm very grateful I stumbled upon this video:)

what a load of shallow rubbish. So if someone is employed as a slave, then it's all ok if they just meditate and be happy about it? no understanding or comment upon those who have to undertake soul destroying jobs in factory assembly lines etc. what about the fact that tedious office jobs are so far removed from what is natural to the human body and condition?just sounds like some capitalist apologist. get on with your miserable job and be happy about it.
ReaperSin 1 year ago
He never said that. What talk were you listening to? He just said not to have the job be a grind, not to move goal posts as a way to achieve happiness and success which is what those jobs do to you. It's a talk to not only the individual but to the people that run these companies to see how these people are. He advocates getting better at your job but he says by approaching your job from a positive standpoint, it will be much easier for you to escape your cycle and be better and more productive so that you can get a better job down the line.

Oddly enough, I feel worse after watching this. Mainly because nothing he's said will probably work for me. I'd get sick of it fast and it would just become another chore and more stress. There's also the whole  everything you've been taught up to this point is wrong thing.
CorasSong 1 year ago
I was a negative pessimistic person by nature just like you (even as a Christian) until I got my terminal illness called ALS. Now? I've never been happier. TRUTH. Seriously! Why? Because I did what the little unicorn girl did. It's all mindset and attitude, people. And when you know that God will use ALL THINGS for your GOOD, then you aren't relying on yourself or lying to yourself or believing lies to change your mindset. You are having faith in THE ONE GOD that can truly deliver for you! Jesus said the only way to God is through Him. Call upon the name of the Lord to be saved. Believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead on the third day. Confess your sins to Him and repent of them. This will give you access to the Father and the good He wants to bestow upon you! Romans 8:28 (KJV) 28 And we know that ALL things work together for GOOD to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
